Day 3 - Getting High

Early start with breakie and then headed to Pykes Peak which was open this time. An hour and 6000 feet later we’d hit the 14110 foot mark at the top. Whilst getting acclimatised to the sub zero F temperatures we were buzzed by four F16s; probably the first and only time we’ve seen them from above as they banked around the mountain below us.

Achievement: 500 miles done.

Clearly being at such a high altitude got to Pete’s head as he let Mark drive on the gravel roads   on the way down which Mark thoroughly enjoyed. It is now known as special stage 2.
Leaving the Peak we entered the Garden of the Gods which is a bunch of trails around some large rocks. We ditched the car and went walking and then climbed a few of the easier verticle rock faces (as it was impromptu we had to do it without ropes and picks).

Taco Bell for lunch, lots of Mountain Dew of all flavours was consumed to wake us up for the afternoon.

Later we drove into Denver to catch the Denver Rockies Baseball game. We got there a little late, but the Rockies were winning 2-1. This is Martin’s first photo, we told him not to take any more as he wouldn’t get one as good ever again! Due to our chanting the Rockies scored 6 in the next inning which for  you none baseball fans is quite a lot! A couple of hotdogs later the Rockies won 13-4 which we’re taking most of the credit for :)

  2. Yup, an all-action shot! Also most impressed with the vertical spider-men, next stop - free climbing the Grand Canyon perhaps?

  3. So, are you really climbing a rock face, or just lying pissed on the floor??....only it's difficult to tell from this angle!!!
